One of the largest communities in academia is the medical community. With most of the top universities in America, many people forget about the medical programs outside America. With large academic communities in both England and Japan, international medical schools can compete with those in America.
The School of Clinical Medicine, the medical school of the University of Cambridge, is a world renowned institution. Ranked second in 2010, behind Harvard, it is one of the most prestigious and critical programs not only in Britain, but internationally as well. The University of Tokyo is ranked sixth in the world for their medical program. Tokyo has a very good medical research program, but also has one of the finest teaching hospitals in Japan, even sending medical help to those affected by the recent earthquakes.
There are a number of great medicals schools in America. Johns Hopkins, Harvard and Princeton all come on the top of the list, but there are many overlooked medical school that are thriving in foreign countries. With such great schools as Cambridge and The University of Tokyo, the international community is beginning to compete with the schools in America.
